1 /5 Kinneth Till: ā 1-Star Review ā Rude Owner and Poor Management
Iāve been a loyal Anytime Fitness member since I was 18 years old and have trained at locations across Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Kansas, and other states. Iāve always respected the rules, paid any guest fees, and appreciated the brandās friendly reputation. Unfortunately, my experience at the Pineville, LA location was completely different.
A few weeks before this incident, I accidentally left a power bank plugged into a wall outlet. I called right away and politely asked if staff could put it aside so my wife could pick it up since I work out of town. I never received a call backāno confirmation at all. That already made me question how this gym is run.
Then more recently, I brought my wife to work out with me, something weāve done for years at other locations without any problems. Years ago, the Alexandria manager told us we could fill out a waiver and leave $10 under the door for a guest. This time there was no waiver available, but I still left $20 under the door just to be respectful and do things right.
The next morning, a woman called meāher tone was sharp and condescending from the start. She asked if I had come in Sunday and left $20 under the door. I said yes, explaining that this had always been allowed before. She cut me off and said, āFirst of all, we do not allow that. This time Iāll let you off with a warning.ā
Her attitude was unnecessary and rude. I wasnāt trying to break any rule; I was following what the same location had told me years earlier. Instead of calmly explaining that the policy had changed, she talked over me and sounded irritated the entire time. During the call, she said she owns both the Alexandria and Pineville locations and that the policy is the same at each. If thatās true, then her own team gave out wrong information in the pastāand customers shouldnāt be blamed for that.
I told her I would follow the policy going forward but mentioned that most successful gyms across the country allow guests when waivers are signed and fees are paid. She replied, āOur policy works for us.ā Based on her attitude, itās easy to see why this gym is usually bare.
If she really is the owner, that makes her behavior even more concerning. Owners set the tone for their business. Speaking to a respectful, paying customer this way is unprofessional and damaging to the Anytime Fitness name. Leadership means showing patience, respect, and basic courtesyāeven when enforcing a rule.
Iāve always paid more than requiredāoften $20 instead of $5ā10ājust to be fair. I see others sneak guests in for free while I do things the right way, yet Iām the one who gets a rude call. Combined with the complete lack of follow-up about my lost power bank, it shows a pattern of poor communication and customer service.
I hope other anytime fitness gyms will open nearby so I can go somewhere else. Good equipment means nothing if the people running the gym donāt know how to treat customers with respect.
