Oak Alley Plantation - Vacherie (LA)

5 /5 BRYAN LOWRY: 2nd time there, it was a very nice experience each time. Our tour guide was new and nervous, but he did a good job explaining the history of the plantation. The ladies in the gift shop were so friendly and helpful also. My wife try an alcohol free Mint Julep, and now thats all she craves at home.

5 /5 Kayla Hendren: The grounds are haunting and absolutely beautiful. The house offers a guided tour that goes through the original and final owners of the property. The grounds are self guided, but there is lots to see so give yourself plenty of time to explore and learn, especially going through the slave quarters.

5 /5 David LeBreton: Great tour of the plantation with excellent history about the family who lived there and how the slaves they had owned built the home with brick and how much the slaves were worth according to their skills they had. The short sugar cane documentary was also very informative. The oak trees and the views were amazing. Highly recommend.

4 /5 Frank Biermann: We took this plantation tour through Gray Line and not including travel, we had about 90 minutes at the plantation. We thought it wasn’t that much time, but in the end we had more than enough. There isn’t actually a whole lot to look at and explore on the plantation itself. You get to walk through a few slave quarters and look at exhibits and then there is the tour of the main house which took about 30 minutes. Most of that portion was just hearing the tour guide talk about the history. There were a lot of great spots for photos with all the oak trees. If that’s what you’re interested in, it’s worth the trip, otherwise I’d probably skip this tour next time around. The overall experience wasn’t worth the long bus ride.

5 /5 Chris Perley: My wife and I visited here a few days ago. It was an amazing experience. The tour of the "Big House" with Jackie was very well done. She is a great guide who spoke clearly about life inside. The grounds were lovely, and very well maintained. We sat for the talk at the cabins with Stephen. The information he shared about life outside the house was very thorough and well researched. He was able to answer all of our questions completely. If you plan on visiting, and have the means, travel there on your own and spend the time to walk the grounds. We were so glad we could self guide at our own pace. Thank you for a very educational day.
