Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist - Lafayette
Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist
Sheila Flood: Very pretty red brick Cathedral with a truly enormous live oak tree protected in the yard and a really interesting cemetery out back. We arrived on Christmas day in the afternoon when it wasnt open ahead of the Mass but I think its normally open.
Acadian Cultural Center - Lafayette
Acadian Cultural Center
Roux_504: Its a nice visitor center type spot that gives you great history on the Acadiana region and admission was free of charge. The ranger on duty gave us a presentation of the makeshift musical instruments. The gift shop on property is reasonably priced. Parking is great and the facility is right up the road from Vermilionville Historical Village

Kacie Piazza: Ive debated posting this review as our experience as a whole wasnt all that bad. With that being said a family member had booked a party here this past weekend. Another family member of mine brought her 4 year old autistic son(level 3)along with her other 2 older sons to play and attend the birthday party. With about 45 minutes left of the birthday party, my cousin was approached by the manager saying her son that is of special needs was not allowed to to be in the play area without socks. My cousin then tried to explain to the manager that he is autistic and he wouldnt keep his socks on. The manager then replied along the lines of" I understand, but for sanitation reasons he cant be up here without socks". My cousin didnt make a fuss about it and removed him from the play area. So as a place of business whos crowd is mainly children, how do you go about accommodating children with needs? Do special needs children just not get to enjoy the little things as other kids who arent on the spectrum do? I had went speak to the manager and she had said well had I known the party wasnt over we would have let him play. At this point it shouldnt matter if her son was attending a party or not. In regard to sanitation, all of these children are running around sweating on every piece of equipment in this building that is being played on, but there is no leniency towards children who dont fully comprehend the rules of this establishment as far as wearing socks? Parents have a hard enough time bringing challenged children to events without being worried of judgment of the outside world. So hopefully this is something that can be discussed and prevented in the future because all children deserve to enjoy moments of fun.
Champagnes Cajun Swamp Tours / Only store with facilities and restrooms on Lake Martin, Louisiana - Breaux Bridge
Champagnes Cajun Swamp Tours / Only store with facilities and restrooms on Lake Martin, Louisiana
Heather MacDonald: If you’re looking to do a swamp tour Champagne’s is THE tour you want. My husband and I took a swamp tour today and it was awesome! Every seat on the boat has a fabulous view. Our guide, Jimmy had all kinds of great information about the lake and bayou. He was able to point out different birds, turtles and gators! He knew the best spots to find the gators and we were able to be up close so everyone had a good look while being respectful of them in their habitat. The cypress trees are just starting to leaf out. We had plenty of sunshine (wear sunscreen) and no mosquitoes! We saw so many beautiful birds including an osprey in her nest! Big thank you to Jimmy for being a great guide today!

Siena Thomas: 3 playsets and swings which are great. Bathrooms but theyre obviously not ever cleaned or maintenanced. Grass is well groomed but there are ant piles EVERYWHERE and always a bit of trash seems to be picked up a few times a month. Nice park with lots of room for improvement.
Survivor Oak - Scott
Survivor Oak
Andrea F: This majestic oak is over 150 years old and is magical. Story says a hurricane uprooted it in the early 1900s and probably should have died. A plaque at its base says that it is dedicated to all survivors. I think it is an amazing testament to resilience and perserverance in life.
Cypress Island Preserve - St Martinville
Cypress Island Preserve
Sheila Flood: GPS brought us to Rookery road which is closed but just a few feet down. The road is the visitor center and a parking lot with washrooms. The boardwalk is very close to the visitor center but is currently broken and needing repairs as of December 2024. The trail to the left is very wide with swamp on both sides. Nice photos on a sunny day. We also visited the east side of Lake Martin where the swamp tours are, where you can see the actual lake, boats, fishing and birds. We drove from one side of the lake to the other but you can walk the entire trail if you have time. Its over 5 mi.
