1 /5 miss jenn: This one hurts. I’ve popped in several times when visiting my family over the years, and they tend to have a great selection of unique pieces. Came shopping last week during a vulnerable time, to find a dress for my grandmother’s funeral visitation. Found a wonderful dress for the event and tried on a few other pieces as well. The specific piece prompting this review was sold to me as a “high-end Italian silk blouse” by Marisima. It was very soft and lovely, and the price of $120 seemed an appropriate investment for what the sales lady told me it was.
Fast forward to today when I wore it back home. As a woman of a certain age, I love natural fiber fabrics to help with heat management, which is why I bought the shirt in the first place. I went into a meeting this afternoon where the a/c was out and noticed quite quickly that the “Italian silk shirt” did not behave as I have come to expect silk to behave. Upon arrival home, I removed it and checked the tag. Turns out, there’s not a stitch of silk in the shirt at all! It’s 95% viscose and 5% elastic. I was duped by a cheap silk dupe! Feeling foolish for grief shopping and blindly trusting a sales lady’s word in my untethered state.
This lapse in trust and integrity was truly disappointing. Of course they have a return policy of store credit only (not that I attempted to return anything, but I checked today out of curiosity). That alone is always red flag to me.
YMMV, but buyer beware! Be sure to check the tags to make sure what they’re selling you is actually what you’re buying.
